Mnemba Island
Zanzibar, Tanzania
Pure barefoot bliss is the allure of Mnemba, where dawn is greeted by the song of doves and the smell of coconut bread baking in a wood stove. Mnemba Island offers an unpretentious paradise where just 12 rustic palm-frond bandas are tucked into a tropical forest fringed by a white coral sand beach.
The surrounding coral reef teems with marine life, making Mnemba one of the finest dive sites in the Indian Ocean. From September to March, green turtles nest on the island's beaches, and humpback whales and dolphins are regularly spotted offshore.
