All about THAKADU RIVER CAMP

Set along the banks of the Marico River, aha Thakadu River Camp provides luxurious tented accommodation and a stylish, comfortable base from which to explore the splendid game viewing that only Madikwe Game Reserve, close to the Botswana border, can provide.

With its strong Afro-Asian safari ambiance, aha Thakadu River Camp offers 12 Luxury Tented Suites, perfectly blended within their natural surroundings, and each with their own viewing deck overlooking the Marico River. 3 of the Suites are family Units, with an extra double-size sleeper couch. All suites include an indoor bath and shower.

The main lodge area is built on stilts within the riverfront vegetation and guarantees a serene setting for breakfast, dinners and relaxation.

  1. Via Sun City/Philansberg Directions Via Sun City/Philansberg entering Malatedi Gate

    Take the R21 to Pretoria, then north to Polokwane. After the Zambezi road turno, take the N4 toward Rustenburg. Once on the N4 take the R556 Sun City/Pilanesberg turno. Follow the signs to Sun City/Pilanesberg.

    Pass Sun City for approx 5km, you will come to a 4way stop.

    Turn right at the 4way stop onto the R565 towards Derdepoort. Follow the road for approx 9km and turn left to Bapong/Mabeskraal. Continue straight (through Mabeskraal village).

    For approx 35km and you will get to a 4way stop at the end of Mabeskraal village. Turn right to Derdepoort.

    After 26km the tar ends and a gravel road begins.

    Continue straight for about 26km, you will pass through Molatedi village. Once through the village, you will see a sign to proceed over the bridge, crossing the Marico river.

    Proceed for about 7km to enter Madikwe Game Reserve via the Molatedi gate. The gate will be staffed by a member from the North West Parks. Please turn right once through the gate and follow direction boards to Thakadu River Camp. Please keep to the reserve speed limit of 30 kph. Be aware of animals passing over the road.

  2. Via N4 Zeerust Directions from OR Tombo via N4 Zeerust

    Take the R21 to Pretoria and then take the N1 North to Polokwane

    After the Zambezi Road turno, take the N4 toward Rustenburg. Once on the N4 Continue to Zeerust.

    Enter Zeerust and turn north towards Gaborone and Madikwe Game Reserve on the R49. Continue on this road for about 80km.

    On your right you will see Abjatterskop Gate. Enter Madikwe Game Reserve through this gate. Ask Gate guard for directions to Molatedi Gate.

    Right in front of Molatedi gate, turn left to Thakadu River Camp. The gate will be staed by a member from the North West Parks. Please ask for assistance if needed.

    Follow direction signs to Thakadu River Camp. Please keep to the reserve speed limit of 30 kph. Be aware of animals crossing the road

  3. Gaborne Directions from Gaborne

    From Gaborone, follow signs to Tlokweng Border Post & Kopfontein Border Post. Drive through the border and follow signs to Zeerust on R49 road. Pass Tau Game Lodge side junction on your left, pass Wonderboom Gate side junction on your left and take the next side junction on your left, entering Madikwe Game Reserve at Abjaterskop Gate.

    The gate guard will assist you with directions to Molatedi gate.

    Right in front of Molatedi gate turn left to Thakadu River Camp. The gate will be staed by a member from the north west parks. Please ask for assistance if needed.

    Follow direction signs to Thakadu River Camp. Please keep to the reserve speed limit of 30 kph. Be aware of animals crossing the road

Tariff Includes

Three meals per day: full English breakfast, light luncheon and dinner in the open-air boma or thatched dining room

Tea, coffee, cakes, pastries and afternoon teatime snacks.

Two game drives daily in open safari vehicles, accompanied by experienced rangers and expert Shangaan trackers.

Complimentary road transfers between your Kapama accommodation and Eastgate Airport.

Rates applicable to FIT and GROUP bookings, all rates are subject to change.

Kapama Policy

To secure your booking, the following deposit is required;

Less than 30 days prior to arrival – 100% of the total amount will be due. 75% cancellation fees. 2 days to confirm booking.

30-90 days prior to arrival – 25% of the total amount will be due. 25% cancellation fees. 7 days to confirm booking.

90-365 days prior to arrival – 10% of the total amount will be due. 10% cancellation fees. 14 days to confirm booking.

More than 365 days prior to arrival – 5% of the total amount will be due. 5% cancellation fees. 30 days to confirm booking.

All deposits made are non-refundable.

In the event that the reservation is cancelled, a cancellation fee will be levied equal to the required deposit payments.

All cancellations must be sent to Kapama via confirmed telefax or electronic mail.

General

All terms and conditions, whether general or special, shall be interpreted and take effect according to the laws of South Africa. The Courts of South Africa shall have sole jurisdiction in respect of any claims which may arise between the client and Kapama Private Game Reserve.

Payments to Kapama Game Reserve shall be at rates specified in the Rate Schedule, or as agreed in writing from time to time.

Credit arrangements are on application only. Where no credit facility exists, all reservations shall be settled on a pre-payment basis.

Kapama Private Game Reserve shall not be held responsible for any damage to or loss of any property whether belonging to the client or any of the guests, nor shall Kapama Private Game Reserve be responsible for any personal injury which may be sustained by any guests or by any directors, servants or agents of the client, whether such damage or personal injury be caused by, or arise from the negligence of Kapama Private Game Reserve or its employees or otherwise. The client hereby indemnifies Kapama Private Game Reserve and all its directors, servants or agents of the client in respect of such personal injury, loss or damage.

All guests will be required to settle their accounts for extras, telephone calls, beverages, laundry, etc. on departure. This can be done by credit card or local currency notes.

Check in time 14h00, check out time 11h00.

Insurance: We recommend that all guests have sufficient travel insurance to cover injury, medical costs, emergency evacuation, repatriation, loss or damage to personal belongings and cancellation.

Guests are required to sign an indemnity form on arrival.

Child Policy

Children of all ages are welcome at Kapama River Lodge, Southern Camp and Karula

The family unit rate is for a maximum of 2 adults and 2 children under 12 years

Children under the age of 16 years, sharing with two adults, will pay 50% of the per person rate

No children under the age of 16 can be accommodated at Buffalo Camp
