All about Kapama Southern Camp

Offering an authentic African safari experience and stretching across 13 000 hectares, towards the Kruger area, Kapama embodies a range of stylish accommodation across four sophisticated bush camps and lodges. Each one is meticulously positioned within this wildlife sanctuary.

Located in the extreme south of the reserve, the spectacular Kapama Southern Camp offers luxury-thatched suites. All suites are discreetly hidden in the surrounding indigenous forest that’s alive with birdsong. Families are also catered for at Southern Camp, with three luxury suites specially created for this purpose.

The Spa is also located at Kapama River Lodge, so a pampering for body and mind is close at hand. With four deluxe treatment rooms and a range of revitalizing health and beauty treatments, this spa uses only the finest quality products.

Kapama is known for its diverse wildlife experiences and is home to the big five, with its two daily game drives, fascinating encounters with the prolific wildlife is ensured.

  1. Dullstroom Directions from Dullstroom

    From Dullstroom keep straight to Lydenburg. Pass through Lydenburg taking the R36 to Ohrigstad, through the Strijdom Tunnel to Hoedspruit. Once through Hoedspruit, turn right at the T-junction onto the R40 to Klaserie / Bushbuck Ridge.

    For Buffalo Camp, River Lodge & Kapama Karula: continue along the R40 (past the Eastgate Airport turn off, don’t turn left) until you reach the Buffalo Camp/River Lodge Main gate on your left hand side.

    For Kapama Lodge: after 7km on the R40, turn left at the Eastgate Airport turn-off and continue for 15km. Turn right at the Guernsey turn-off and continue on a gravel road for 10km. The Kapama Lodge entrance will be on your left-hand side

  2. Graskop Directions from Graskop

    This route takes you to Hoedspruit from Graskop via the Blyde River Canyon and is undoubtedly the most scenic route. After leaving Graskop proceed on the R532 and follow this road until it ends in a T-junction with the R36. Turn right onto the R36 and continue over the Abel Erasmus Pass towards Hoedspruit. The R36 becomes the R531 and then the R527 shortly before Hoedspruit. Remain on the roads as mentioned. In Hoedspruit, once crossing over a bridge over the railway line, the road stops at a four-way crossing. Turn right onto the R40 towards Klaserie / Bushbuck Ridge.

    For Buffalo Camp, River Lodge & Kapama Karula: continue along the R40 until you reach the Buffalo Camp/River Lodge/ Kapama Karula Main gate on your left hand side.

    For Kapama Lodge: After 7km on the R40, turn left at the Eastgate Airport turn-off and continue for 15 km. Turn right at the Guernsey turn-off and continue on a gravel road for 10 km. The Kapama Lodge entrance will be on your left-hand side

  3. Nelspruit Directions from Nelspruit

    Proceed in the direction of White River on the R537. After White River take the R40 to Hazyview. Follow this road until you reach a T-junction. Turn left at the T-junction (you are still on the R40), drive through Hazyview. At the four-way stop continue straight on the R40 past Bosbokrand (Bushbuck Ridge) and Acornhoek. After Acornhoek the R40 will continue northwards towards Hoedspruit / Phalaborwa. Approximately 1 km before Klaserie, the R40 branches off to the right and is clearly marked. Take the turnoff towards your right. You will still be on the R40.

    For Buffalo Camp, River Lodge, Southern Camp & Kapama Karula: continue along the R40 until you reach the Buffalo Camp/River Lodge/ Southern Camp/ Kapama Karula main gate on your right hand side

  4. Pretoria Directions from Pretoria

    Take the N4 from Pretoria via eMalahleni (Witbank) and Middleburg towards Mbombela (Nelspruit). Turn left on the R540 towards eMakhazeni (Belfast). In centre of town turn right (there will be a Total garage on your left hand side then) to eMnotweni (Dullstroom) and then on to Mashishing (Lydenburg). Pass through Mashishing (Lydenburg) taking the R36 to Ohrigstad, through the Strijdom Tunnel to Hoedspruit. Once through Hoedspruit, turn right at the T-junction onto the R40 to Klaserie / Bushbuck Ridge.

    For Buffalo Camp, River Lodge, Kapama Karula &Southern Camp: continue along the R40 (past the Eastgate Airport turn off, don’t turn left) until you reach the Buffalo Camp/River Lodge/ Kapama Karula & Southern Camp main gate on your left hand side

  5. Phalaborwa Directions from Phalaborwa

    Leave town on the R71 towards Gravelotte. After 9km turn left onto the R40. Proceed on the R40 in the direction of Mica/ Hoedspruit. The distance from Phalaborwa to Hoedspruit is approximately 80km. After Hoedspruit continue on the R40

Accomodation

All 15 suites at Southern Camp have full en-suite bathrooms with picture windows to enjoy the surrounding scenery and birdlife. Air conditioning, minibars and tea and coffee stations are standard in all suites of this five-star safari accommodation. Private patios offer the opportunity to enjoy relaxing sundowners, while game watching at the same time.

Kapama Southern Camp has 7 luxury villas. These 95 m² luxury suites have their own private lap pool, inside and outside showers, large minibar, espresso machine and a romantic fireplace open to the bath and bedroom.

To accommodate families Southern Camp offers 3 Family Villas which includes a Luxury Villa with a lap pool complete with a separate connected bedroom for children with its own bath, shower, double vanity and outside patio.

Tariff Includes

Three meals per day: full English breakfast, light luncheon and dinner in the open-air boma or thatched dining room

Two game drives daily in open safari vehicles, accompanied by experienced rangers and expert Shangaan trackers.

Complimentary road transfers between your Kapama accommodation and Eastgate Airport.

Twice daily housekeeping service

Kapama Policy

To secure your booking, the following deposit is required;

Less than 30 days prior to arrival – 100% of the total amount will be due. 75% cancellation fees. 2 days to confirm booking.

30-90 days prior to arrival – 25% of the total amount will be due. 25% cancellation fees. 7 days to confirm booking.

90-365 days prior to arrival – 10% of the total amount will be due. 10% cancellation fees. 14 days to confirm booking.

More than 365 days prior to arrival – 5% of the total amount will be due. 5% cancellation fees. 30 days to confirm booking.

All deposits made are non-refundable.

In the event that the reservation is cancelled, a cancellation fee will be levied equal to the required deposit payments.

All cancellations must be sent to Kapama via confirmed telefax or electronic mail.

General

All terms and conditions, whether general or special, shall be interpreted and take effect according to the laws of South Africa. The Courts of South Africa shall have sole jurisdiction in respect of any claims which may arise between the client and Kapama Private Game Reserve.

Payments to Kapama Game Reserve shall be at rates specified in the Rate Schedule, or as agreed in writing from time to time.

Credit arrangements are on application only. Where no credit facility exists, all reservations shall be settled on a pre-payment basis.

Kapama Private Game Reserve shall not be held responsible for any damage to or loss of any property whether belonging to the client or any of the guests, nor shall Kapama Private Game Reserve be responsible for any personal injury which may be sustained by any guests or by any directors, servants or agents of the client, whether such damage or personal injury be caused by, or arise from the negligence of Kapama Private Game Reserve or its employees or otherwise. The client hereby indemnifies Kapama Private Game Reserve and all its directors, servants or agents of the client in respect of such personal injury, loss or damage.

All guests will be required to settle their accounts for extras, telephone calls, beverages, laundry, etc. on departure. This can be done by credit card or local currency notes.

Check in time 14h00, check out time 11h00.

Insurance: We recommend that all guests have sufficient travel insurance to cover injury, medical costs, emergency evacuation, repatriation, loss or damage to personal belongings and cancellation.

Guests are required to sign an indemnity form on arrival.

Child Policy

Children of all ages are welcome at Kapama River Lodge, Southern Camp and Karula

The family unit rate is for a maximum of 2 adults and 2 children under 12 years

Children under the age of 16 years, sharing with two adults, will pay 50% of the per person rate

No children under the age of 16 can be accommodated at Buffalo Camp
