All about Shipwreck Lodge

Shipwreck Lodge is the only lodge inside the Skeleton Coast National Park, 45km north of Mowe Bay, on the mouth of the Hoarusib River. The area contains irreplaceable and vulnerable wildlife habitat for species of the highest conservation importance, including black rhino, elephant, black faced impala and the Hartmann’s mountain zebra.

About the camp
Activities
    Year Round:
  • Day excursions to the Mowe Bay seal colony, including stops at the Suiderkus and Karimona shipwrecks, Westies diamond mine, and the remains of the Ventura Bomber.
  • Sundowner drives to the roaring dunes.
  • Full day 4x4 Hoarusib River excursions, including the Clay Castles and wildlife spotting.
  • Beach lunch (weather permitting).
  • Quad biking (mornings only; age limit of 16 applies - please see separate fact sheet for details). We recommend pre-booking.
  • Sandboarding.

  1. Road Travel Two-wheel drive vehicle

    there are road transfers available from Windhoek. Selfdrivers can make their way to Mowe Bay and from there, ransfer to camp.

  1. Air Travel Direct Flights

    Johannesburg, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Addis Ababa and Doha. Fly to Windhoek and then switch to a light aircraft to fly to Mowe Bay.

Accomodation

The cabins have been uniquely styled to look like the shipwrecks that dot the coast. All are ensuite (with indoor showers), solar powered and have wood burning stoves to ward off the coastal chill.
