Savuti Camp

Savuti is set on the productive Savute Channel – a refuge for a variety of wildlife and a fascinating natural phenomenon: When dry, it is a rich feeding ground and corridor between the mopane woodlands for both plains game and predators. When the waters flow, game congregates around it in numbers. Activities include day and night game drives, nature walks and boating (water levels permitting).

All about Savuti Camp

The 125 000-hectare (308 000-acre) Linyanti Concession bordering Chobe National Park’s western boundary is an enormous wildlife-rich area with an unrivalled atmosphere of remoteness and space. The bulk of the concession is comprised of different mopane woodland associations, but along the Linyanti River exists a strip of riparian forest and floodplain. The concession is bisected by an ancient watercourse – the Savute Channel – famous as a sporadic and unusual watercourse, possibly as a result of tectonic activity in the area. Dry for many years, it started flowing again in 2008 which led to an influx of waterbirds and adaptation from the resident animals. In keeping with its erratic nature, the Channel is dry once more, exposing open grasslands and creating a new dynamic in wildlife activity. The area is famed for its herds of elephant that reach the world’s highest densities in the dry winter months. Other species are also abundant – zebra, wildebeest, impala, giraffe, lechwe, reedbuck, kudu – and in addition to species like lion, spotted hyaena and leopard, the area also plays host to populations of cheetah and wild dog. Rarer species such as sable and roan emerge from the woodlands during the dry season.

The Linyanti has diverse and prolific wildlife, but is most noted for its very large elephant population which can reach enormous densities during the dry winter months. Other game concentrations are also high, and apart from abundant plains game, species such as roan and sable antelope, giraffe, lion, leopard, cheetah, spotted hyaena, black-backed jackal and wild dog may also be encountered. This area can also be excellent for the rarely-seen aardvark and aardwolf. Birding is spectacular.

Gratuities Guidelines

We would like to reiterate that tipping is not compulsory. Guests should not feel obliged to do so. Tipping should be undertaken only by choice, subject to the service received. In addition, guests may wish to add a nominal amount for incidentals, ranging between USD 15.00 to USD 30.00 per day (subject to personal budget choice) - i.e. if additional activities are booked once on their journey, if travel arrangements change for any reason, in acknowledgement of good service received in another area, etc.

Guide and Specialist Guide - We recommend about USD 10.00 per guest per day and may be tipped directly.

The General Safari Camp Staff - We recommend about USD 10.00 per guest per day for safari camps. This should be placed in the communal tipping box to be distributed equally amongst all the staff.

With regards to being hosted by Camp Management and/or Assistant Camp Management, tipping separately for said staff is purely optional and per guests’ discretion.
